SP asks questions about BFT's supervisory capacity
Can the Financial Supervision Office (BFT) adequately investigate the transactions of third-party accounts at all notary offices? And why are notaries allowed to perform name changes for foundations on behalf of a colleague at the same office? These and other critical questions were posed by SP Members of Parliament Michiel van Nispen and Renske Leijten to Minister of Justice and Security Ferd Grappenhaus.
The SP members posed the questions in response to an article by Marcel Pheijffer (Nyenrode) and Jeroen Princen (DVDW Advocaten) in the Nederlands Juristenblad and De Accountant about the fraud at Pels Rijcken. A former civil-law notary committed fraud. The politicians now want to know, among other things, whether the supervisory capacity of the Financial Supervision and Enforcement Authority (BFT) is sufficient, what lessons should be learned, and what measures are being taken to prevent this from happening in the future.
