Everything is perfectly organized and well-explained. In the jungle of explanations, it's not always easy for customers to distinguish what's important from what's simply useful to know. Perhaps a "shortcut" could be added to the customer journey.

Better information upfront. I received a quote for a certificate of inheritance for around €1,000. This was a starting price. The actual price depended on the time spent on the file, but when the bill finally arrives and it's almost three times as high, I wonder why they don't call ahead to discuss it. They should be able to estimate the costs. What's so different from a simple certificate of inheritance, which could be issued for €750? Being so unpleasantly surprised with a high bill doesn't seem customer-friendly to me.

Maes Notarissen claims to keep rates low by allowing clients to do much themselves, thus operating efficiently and affordably. In fact, Maes was actually approximately 20% more expensive than other notary offices (with the same procedures). The lack of a cup of coffee was completely counterproductive. MAES comes across as very arrogant, and we experienced this as well. At the last minute, we had to show up early on December 24th, and we agreed. We were given a rather pathetic bag of three mints, which we happily declined on our second visit. In short, in my working life, I've had to sign many deeds at various notary offices, and not the least. Unfortunately, the MAES experience was a negative one.

With a check-off overview of the costs. The package definitely includes activities that you pay for according to the package, but what are the additional costs so you know you're staying within your budget? The first invoice included a timesheet. Nice, but what did you do? It didn't add any value. The second invoice did include a good breakdown. If it can be included with the invoice, it can also be included in the online file. The attachments from "unknown" suppliers were neat, and they were reflected 1:1 on the invoice. Then you have a match and know why these costs were incurred.

I understand that there are certain costs associated with a deed of registration. The flexibility and, consequently, the unorthodox way of accommodating clients, as happened with my sister Maureen: she was and is no longer able to appear at the notary's office for the drawing up of her will. Well, then Maes Notarissen comes to her at the hospice! I also consider the signing of the deed on a Sunday an extraordinary example of positive unorthodoxy!
Using the digital portal wasn't always smooth, but any issues were quickly resolved. I hope I won't encounter any more problems accessing the digital client portal Maes Notarissen has made available to us—my brother, Rob, and myself.

We are very satisfied with the services provided by MAES civil-law notaries. The professionalism and speed with which my questions were handled are exceptional. They were always available for questions and worked very efficiently. They were responsive to the client's needs, and last-minute changes were no problem at all. Finally, I really appreciated being able to track the progress of my case online in the client portal. I would specifically like to thank the staff who worked on my case and with whom I had direct contact (Ms. van Lechle and Ms. van Ee), and of course the civil-law notary, for the excellent service.

The Maes Notarissen website provides excellent insight into your client's status. All documents are easily found, and communication is excellent if questions arise. I've never seen such a good website before. And the data is retained for a long time. The notary kept me well-informed during the signing of the deed of sale. It was therefore a pleasure to sign the deed of sale together with the buyers.

Overall, customer service and friendliness could be much better. Due to the crowds, we had to wait over 20 minutes, which I can understand, but we weren't even offered coffee or anything. If you pay that much for a service, you should at least expect a cup of coffee or a glass of water. Furthermore, the notary himself was very rushed, spoke far too fast, and was too friendly (which made him seem arrogant). Buying your first home and signing the deeds should be a pleasant experience, but this made it less enjoyable for me. The seller also shares my opinion about the entire experience.

According to the invoice, the total time for research and such took 5 hours and 39 minutes, but I find it extremely annoying that the total time should have been around 8 weeks, especially because of the recurring costs that continue and cannot be claimed anywhere. Don't use arrogant language. Use civil language and be polite. We received a pointless explanation last year and this year. I know that buying a house requires a notary. It costs too much money. I'd appreciate hearing that it took a lot of time, but we're going to check it now.

We didn't always find that convenient; a one-on-one meeting would have been helpful. Of course, we understand that office visits are being limited as much as possible due to the coronavirus pandemic. Finally, offering a cup of coffee during the signing of the deed wouldn't be out of place. In our opinion, this creates a different customer experience.

Between the time the 10% deposit was transferred and the house transfer date, the bank's interest rate changed from 0 to negative interest on the notary's account. The initial documents (regarding the deposit) stated that no interest would be paid (logical, considering the bank's interest rate was 0%). After that, there was no change in this interest rate to us. However, the transfer note did include (small) amounts for both the deposit and the total purchase price, due to the negative interest rate. I would have appreciated being informed beforehand that the interest rate had changed and that a settlement would take place. These were only small amounts, so that's not the issue. It's about transparency. Incidentally, I did receive good answers to my emailed questions about this.
