Chambers for the notary: fewer cases, no dismissals
The chambers for notarial services handled fewer cases in 2023 than the previous year. Furthermore, the number of complainants appealing the chair's decision decreased significantly: in 2022, 35 percent of cases were concluded following a decision by the chair, compared to 62 percent in 2023. Moreover, no cases were dismissed. This is evident from the 2023 annual report.
Last year, the chambers received a total of 263 cases. In 2022, that number rose to 295, and in 2021, it even reached 375. The annual report (pdf) also addresses the so-called chairperson's decision: the chairperson of the chamber can decide that a complaint is inadmissible, unfounded, or of insufficient weight. Last year, such a chairperson's decision was made 57 times. In 35 of those cases, the complainant accepted the chairperson's decision.
53 times a justified complaint
In 2023, the chambers issued a total of 173 decisions. The Arnhem-Leeuwarden chamber made the most decisions: 80. All chambers combined ruled that a complaint was well-founded 53 times, with no disciplinary action being taken in 7 cases. In the remaining cases, 22 warnings were issued, 16 reprimands, 6 suspensions, 1 fine, and 1 disqualification from acting as a deputy. Last year, as in 2022, the chambers did not impose disqualifications.
