CNUE: 'Artificial intelligence should not disrupt the notary profession'
Artificial intelligence must not disrupt the code of conduct of notaries and the way they practice their profession. Therefore, additional, new legislation on this matter is crucial. This is the message sent by the European Council of Notaries, the CNUE, to the European Commission. The Royal Dutch Association of Notaries (KNB) endorses this response.
The European Commission has launched a consultation on its ideas for a Digital Package . The CNUE's response (pdf, 103kB) was prepared by the IT and New Technologies Working Group. Isabelle Cox represents the KNB in this working group.
To demand
The CNUE wants the new legislation on artificial intelligence to include requirements regarding safety and liability, for example. Furthermore, the council believes that notaries must be able to understand the reasoning behind the machine's artificial intelligence. Therefore, the European Commission's desire to invest in training is justified. Transparency about the companies that build the tools is also essential: who commissions them and how is the financing handled?
