Concerns about private financing of holiday homes
Members of Parliament Sandra Beckerman and Michiel van Nispen (both Socialist Party) are concerned about the increase in private financing of holiday homes. Criminal investors can launder money this way. They are therefore asking three ministers for clarification. Both politicians want to know, among other things, whether stricter supervision of notaries, for example, is necessary.
The written questions were prompted by an article in Het Financieele Dagblad about the private financing of holiday homes. Since 2010, the number of private mortgage lenders has increased by 40 percent. This is a concern for the money laundering experts cited in the FD. According to them, this should be a red flag for the police and the judiciary regarding money laundering.
Major banks
Beckerman and Van Nispen want to know from the Ministers of Justice and Security, Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, and Housing and Spatial Planning how many holiday parks have already been acquired by criminal investors. They also want to hear from the ministers whether it is true that major banks are increasingly withdrawing from the financing market for holiday park acquisitions due to money laundering.
Lack of supervision
Furthermore, according to the SP members, there is a lack of regulations and oversight in the recreational real estate market. This creates an opportunity for criminals to launder money. They therefore want to hear from the ministers about their views on stricter oversight of chain partners, such as notaries and appraisers.
