K. (Karina) van Houten

Experienced lawyer. Over 35 years in the notarial profession. First at Jongerius, Van der Stap & Heyman, a predecessor of Nauta Dutilh. Since then, a lifelong loyalty to our firm. Karina was already establishing private limited companies (BVs) when they still required a minimum issued capital of 40,000 guilders. She handled share transfers long before the legislature decided it was wise to do so by mandatory notarial deed of transfer. She's already managed to spruce up quite a few of Jantje's notebooks into a proper shareholder register. So you don't need to tell her anything anymore. A single word is enough.

Karina says...

I still remember when Dutilh Van der Hoeven & Slager merged with the upscale Nauta Van Haersolte. Lots of nice people. That resulted in a huge firm. A different kind of practice than here. Lots of listed companies. Personally, I sometimes found it quite difficult at the time to be caught in the middle of all that lawyer-versus-notary competition and to experience how everyone was constantly maneuvering politically. In my experience, that sometimes came at the expense of what I could do for the client. I'm fortunate that I chose to work for an independent, self-employed notary at the time. That always made me feel safe and valued, and that has proven to be fertile ground for me to this day.
