New energy label on shaky ground

A majority of the House of Representatives on Tuesday adopted a motion by VVD MP Daniel Koerhuis to postpone the introduction of the new energy label. This new label was scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2021.

The government plans to introduce a new method for determining energy labels starting January 1st. Advisors will visit homes to assess their sustainability. This will provide homeowners with a more accurate and comprehensive label. According to the VVD (People's Party for Freedom and Democracy), homeowners will also pay significantly more: the cost will increase from €10 to €190. The notary must inform the seller of their legal obligation to provide the energy label. The government is currently considering the matter and will issue a further response at a later date.
