Notary 'vital profession' in certain situations

The Ministry of Justice and Security has informed the Royal Dutch Association of Civil-Law Notaries (KNB) that notarial services for which postponement is not possible or socially undesirable fall under the category of "essential government processes" on the list of "vital professions." This includes wills and deliveries with a fixed term.

If both parents (at least in two-parent families) belong to one of the vital professions and are simultaneously involved in vital processes, childcare and school are available for the children. According to the Ministry, specific aspects of the notary's office provide for a public function and a role in social interaction between the government and citizens. Furthermore, under the current circumstances, this role cannot be filled by another private party or government official.
