Number of notarial disciplinary chamber cases decreased
Last year, 318 cases were submitted to the four chambers for the notarial profession. This is 53 fewer than in 2019. 306 cases were resolved in 2020. Two notaries were removed from office. As in 2019, nine notaries were suspended.
The chambers for the notarial profession held hearings primarily online in 2020. In addition, cases were also dealt with without hearings. This avoided significant backlogs caused by the coronavirus lockdown. No clear shifts in the content of the cases are visible, according to the chair of the Notarial Commission in the annual report . However, he does see that financial abuse of the elderly regularly demands the attention of the chambers, even in notarial disciplinary cases. He also believes that a new area of tension has arisen in the notarial profession: the gatekeeper role versus the relatively limited tools available to the notary.
Room differences
Most cases were filed last year in the Arnhem-Leeuwarden chamber. The two disqualifications were also imposed there. The Hague had the fewest cases to process. The most suspensions (4) occurred in 's-Hertogenbosch. No one was suspended in Amsterdam.
