No fine for the time being for missing energy label
The new energy label has created a shortage of energy consultants. Therefore, Minister Kajsa Ollongren of the Interior and Kingdom Relations has decided that homeowners will not be fined for failing to apply for an energy label to sell their house until July 1, 2021. The condition is that they have attempted to register the label in a timely manner.
Most applications for an energy label are processed without any problems, the Minister wrote in a letter to Parliament (pdf) . However, it sometimes happens that people are unable to find an energy advisor in time. The Minister expects that the number of advisors will increase, they will be easier to find, and that price fluctuations and processing times will therefore decrease. When the new energy label was introduced on January 1st of this year, it was expected to cost an average of €190. However, the website woninglabel.nl calculated that the average price in February was €256.
Obligation
An energy label is required if a homeowner wants to sell or rent their home. The notary must inform the seller of the legal requirement to provide the energy label.
