Notary reports 65 percent more unusual transactions
Last year, notaries reported 65 percent more unusual transactions than in 2018. The number of reports by notaries rose from 800 in 2018 to 1,317 in 2019. There was also a 65 percent increase in 2018 compared to 2017. This is evident from the 2019 annual report of the Financial Intelligence Unit-Netherlands (FIU).
Last year, 177 unusual transactions reported by civil-law notaries were declared suspicious. In 2018 , there were 170. The number of civil-law notaries filing reports rose from 211 in 2018 to 322 in 2019.
Tripling
According to the annual report , a total of 2,462,973 unusual transactions were reported to the FIU in 2019. In 2018, this figure was 753,352. This more than threefold increase was largely due to reports based on the high-risk countries designated by the European Commission. Excluding related transactions, the number of reported unusual transactions in 2019 amounted to 541,236: an increase of approximately 37 percent compared to 2018 (394,743 reports). This continues the trend of increasing numbers of reported unusual transactions.
19 billion euros
In 2019, the FIU declared a total of 39,544 transactions suspicious, with a total value of over €19 billion. The majority of suspicious transactions originated from payment service providers (money transfers).
