Quality of Wwft notifications by notaries praised
The quality of Wwft reports submitted by civil-law notaries regarding real estate transactions is generally praised by reviewers of suspicious transactions in the criminal justice system. This is according to the Anti-Money Laundering Centre (AMLC) in an article about suspicious real estate transactions. Due to their extensive information, civil-law notaries often paint a comprehensive picture of the situation.
The number of suspicious real estate transactions in the fourth quarter of 2021 rose sharply compared to the third quarter: 174 percent. This involved a total of 46 transactions, 52 of which involved real estate and 34 reporting parties. According to the AMLC, the majority of these reporting parties are civil-law notaries. They report unusual transactions to the FIU-Netherlands, primarily due to unclear origins of financial assets or ABC transactions .
