Water boards
The Netherlands, land of water. Our office is located on the water. We understand the importance of water management. A water board, also known as a high-water board, is responsible for water management in a specific area. It ensures, for example, that we have sufficient and clean water. And it protects us from overwatering, so we don't get wet feet. They are responsible for flood defenses and waterways and waterways. Water boards do not receive government funding for their duties. They levy their own taxes. Each household is assessed the same amount per living space. Owners of agricultural land and nature reserves pay based on the surface area of their property, and owners of homes and businesses pay based on the municipal WOZ value. In addition, all residents are assessed a water purification levy. This tax is primarily intended to keep surface water clean and to operate wastewater treatment plants. The legal framework primarily concerns water management law and water board law. We advise water boards on land acquisition and expropriation, limited rights (such as leasehold, building rights, easements, chain clauses, qualitative rights and obligations), and toleration obligations (Private Law Obstructions Act, Water Act). We do this independently or in collaboration with third parties.
