Concerns about dirty money from London
Brexit will cause Amsterdam to dethrone London as the European trading center. Maarten Groothuizen (D66) is concerned that London's money laundering practices will also move to our capital. He therefore wants to know from Ministers Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) and Wopke Hoekstra (Finance) whether they identify the same risks and, if so, what the Netherlands can do to address them.
Groothuizen substantiates his written questions with, among other things, an article from The Economist , which states that the London capital market is struggling with "heavily contaminated financial flows due to money laundering problems." Share trading in Amsterdam has quadrupled due to Brexit. Therefore, he wants to know from the ministers whether this has led to an increase in "dirty money" on the Dutch capital market. He also wants to know whether the Dutch government feels responsible for combating corrupt financial flows.
