Chambers for notaries handle more cases
The notarial chambers handled more cases in 2019 than the previous year: 442 compared to 389. The number of cases received by the chambers remained virtually unchanged, according to the annual report of the four chambers.
Just as in 2018 (374 cases), the chambers received significantly fewer cases in 2019 (371 cases) than in previous years. In 2017, the count only reached 485 cases. A possible explanation for the decline is the introduction of court fees in 2018 and a greater willingness to settle among notaries to avoid a potential costs award, writes the chair of the Notary Commission in the annual report (pdf, 413 kB) . Other possible causes include increased activity and more independent handling by the Financial Supervision Office (BFT) and the influence of years of quality-enhancing measures, such as audits, within the profession.
Reprimands
The number of expulsions decreased from 2 to 1. Furthermore, last year, following a substantiated complaint, the chambers issued a total of 29 warnings, 26 reprimands, and 9 suspensions. The number of warnings and suspensions is barely different from 2018. However, the number of reprimands has almost doubled compared to the previous year.
