Belgian and Dutch notaries sign agreement
The Royal Netherlands Notary Association (KNB) and Fednot, our Belgian counterpart, signed a cooperation agreement on November 27. This agreement aims to facilitate and strengthen collaboration between notaries in Belgium and the Netherlands.
KNB chair Annerie Ploumen, Fednot chair Katrin Roggeman, KNB board member Isabelle Cox, and Anthony Leleu, chair of the National Chamber of Notaries in Belgium, signed the agreement in Hoeven, North Brabant. Dutch and Belgian notaries from the border region were present at this celebratory event.
Access for all citizens
More than 150,000 Dutch citizens live and work in Belgium, and more than 40,000 Belgian citizens live in the Netherlands. It's crucial that we share knowledge so we can continue to serve these people effectively, Ploumen emphasized. Therefore, the two notaries are now collaborating more closely.
Exchange experiences
The KNB and Fednot also inform each other about national projects, for example, by exchanging experiences and best practices, both between professional organizations and between civil-law notaries. This already happened at the meeting in Hoeven: the civil-law notaries present discussed the real estate acquisition process—with a particular focus on the cross-border context—digitalization, and private international law.
Course
This afternoon was made possible in part by the European Notarial Network . Both notaries thus immediately implemented the intention, as stated in the cooperation agreement, to organize a training course for (candidate) notaries with an emphasis on European law.
