Finance: Report unusual tax structures

The Ministry of Finance will be reviewing the entire tax system to identify unusual tax schemes. The Ministry is urging the public to report such schemes. This should lead to the first schemes being addressed next spring.

If the government has its way , baby BVs and walker investments will soon be a thing of the past. These structures allow for minimal tax payments, which, according to State Secretary Marnix van Rij (Taxation and Tax Administration), is undesirable. They are legal, but not in the spirit of the law.

Call
Hence the call to report as many noteworthy tax structures as possible through an online consultation . This call is aimed at a broad audience, from private individuals to entrepreneurs and from foundation board members to civil-law notaries. Submissions are open until January 31st.

Round table discussions
In addition to the online consultation, the ministry will also identify tax structures. Following the internal and external assessment, roundtable discussions with stakeholders will discuss the findings. Subsequently, the ministry will determine which structures will be addressed. The ministry expects that abolishing such tax structures will generate €160 million for the treasury in 2024.
