Go to jail
Not many civil-law notaries go to prison. Yet, it does happen. For example, a few years ago, the Amsterdam court sentenced a civil-law notary to ten months in prison for embezzling client funds. According to the court, the suspect's actions had seriously betrayed the trust one may place in a civil-law notary. We find it inconceivable that a civil-law notary would be guilty of this.
Our notary recently had to go to prison. In this case, it was to provide notarial services to an inmate in a correctional facility.
