Bye Maesiaan. I hope you're doing well.

Bad leaver

Occasionally, you have to let go of an employee because, for whatever reason, they're no longer delivering what you expect. For example, if an employee unexpectedly stops fully dedicating themselves to our clients and has shifted their priorities elsewhere. Or if that employee doesn't execute the strategic choices we've made together. Or doesn't thrive in our team. Or refuses to be coached. Or if an employee no longer has the ambition to learn. In all cases, this is disappointing and sad. For all of us; our clients and the entire team suffer as a result. And they deserve better. In these cases, however difficult, we must be willing to face this together. And act accordingly. For example, by discussing it together. Setting goals. Offering guidance. Providing training. Facilitating a transition or outplacement. Or by terminating or not renewing a contract. Fortunately, this doesn't happen very often.

Good leaver

But it also happens that an employee who thrives and performs her duties impeccably, at some point, makes a brave choice to do something else. Something that's not so obvious. Something you don't know, or can't know, in advance what it will bring. Or cost. Today, we say goodbye to such a valued employee. And that's a hard thing for us. Because that employee wasn't just excellent at her job. Above all, she was a fun, caring, and honest colleague. Someone who gave more than she took. We miss her already.

The road not taken

But at the same time, we are incredibly proud of her ambition and the courage she demonstrates in pursuing her dreams. We hope that she has been able to develop with us into who she is today, and we hope that the road, " the one less traveled by ," will bring her all she hopes for. And if " the road not taken " does lead her back to us, we will welcome her back into our dream team with open arms, like a prodigal daughter.

Hello Maesiaan

Bye Maesiaan. I hope you're doing well.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I couldn't travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it is in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And perhaps having the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
