House of Representatives wants investigation into state notary, minister agrees

A broad and thorough investigation into the state of the notary profession. This was suggested today by Member of Parliament Michiel van Nispen (SP) during a committee meeting. Joost Sneller (D66) also felt it was time for this. Minister for Legal Protection Sander Dekker announced that he would initiate this and discuss it with the Royal Dutch Association of Civil-Law Notaries (KNB).

During the House of Representatives' Justice and Security Committee meeting, the developments at Pels Rijcken were discussed, as well as the notarial profession in general. Van Nispen inquired, for example, about the possibility of a social notary service, how to handle floating protocols (protocols of notaries that no one wants to adopt), and when anonymous reporting of suspicious transactions will be possible.

Compliments
Dekker announced that he would add the topic of "social notarial services" and the issue of "floating protocols" to the investigation. A recommendation on whether or not to report suspicious transactions anonymously will be issued in the spring of 2022. He also complimented the notarial profession on its forward-looking approach. He said the work toward the introduction of a digital BV (private limited company) is an example of this.
