Parliamentary questions about the UBO register ruling
The European Court of Justice ruled this week that not everyone should have access to information about ultimate beneficial owners (UBOs). Members of Parliament Chris Stoffer (SGP) and Eelco Heinen (VVD) want to know from Finance Minister Sigrid Kaag how she will respond to this ruling.
According to the European Court of Justice's ruling, allowing everyone to access information about UBOs through the UBO register constitutes a serious infringement of the fundamental rights to privacy and protection of personal data. Stoffer would like Kaag to respond to this ruling. He also wants to know what measures she is taking to comply with the court's judgment.
Infringement of fundamental rights
Heinen also submitted parliamentary questions following the ruling. He wants to know whether Kaag acknowledges that the public nature of the UBO register seriously undermines citizens' fundamental rights. And what are the consequences for entrepreneurs now? Heinen also asks whether any fines or community service orders were imposed that should not have been imposed based on the court's ruling.
