Ploumen and Weerwind discuss the role of notarial gatekeepers

KNB chair Annerie Ploumen met with Franc Weerwind, Minister for Legal Protection, on Wednesday. During the meeting, the notarial profession's desired "gray list" and other instruments for its gatekeeping role were discussed. Weerwind indicated that she would be closely monitoring the notarial profession's position in official and political decision-making.

The Minister clearly sees the importance of a so-called "gray list"—and other instruments—for the notary as a gatekeeper and understands the friction between the reporting obligation on the one hand and confidentiality on the other. He has promised to investigate this topic further to arrive at a better and more effective working method. The question of whether the notary can more easily deposit long-term funds into the Ministry of Finance's consignment fund was also discussed. The Minister also stated that he wants to ensure that the notary's role is not undermined. For example, in the event of a revamp of the purchasing process to ensure greater transparency for consumers.
