European training platform on the way
The European e-Justice Portal will feature a platform for European training courses. Notaries will be able to find training courses and self-study materials on European law there. The platform is currently in its test phase and will be launched in early 2021. The goal is for as many training providers as possible to publish their courses on European law or national law with cross-border elements on the platform.
Sella Saasmoinen, Director-General of Justice of the European Commission, announced the platform at the closing conference of the Council of Notaries of Europe (CNUE). She praised the European Notary Association for organizing the cross-border seminars and webinars on European law. Approximately 5,000 notaries in 22 European Member States have participated since the platform's inception in 2011. The Royal Dutch Association of Notaries (KNB) also organized seminars together with the Belgian, German, and French notaries. Saasmoinen also pointed to the European Commission's 2021-2024 policy vision . The aim is for 30 percent of notaries to take a course in European law or the law of another Member State. The training courses should also include new topics, such as digitalization and artificial intelligence.
Subsidy
The CNUE has received further funding from the European Commission for the 2020-2024 period. The Royal Netherlands Notary Association (KNB) will also resume organizing seminars and webinars with other notaries. The agenda will cover the following topics: European succession law, matrimonial property and partnership law, corporate law, and anti-money laundering. Preparations will begin in January.
