MAES notaries support the Hague celebration of the Relief of Leiden

Celebrate freedom

It won't be long before it's that time again. It's October 3rd. From early morning until late at night, young and old around the world will celebrate Leiden's liberation from the Spanish in 1574 and commemorate the importance of freedom.

Leiden and The Hague

Leiden is a charming student city with a vibrant student life. Full of traditions. Where strides have already been made in the areas of inclusion and diversity, but there's still a world to be won. Many of these students fly out after their time in Leiden. They venture out into the wider world. From Cape Town to Tokyo, from Riyadh to Buenos Aires, from Menton to Nice. And some stay a little closer to home. Settling in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the outskirts, or in the Residentie. That beautiful city behind the dunes. The city of the WeWo and the Kleine Witte. Of the Supreme Court and the Binnenhof. Of Leven! Magazine and Restaurant Oogst. Where the Denneweg road smells faintly of Couperus and satay. The city of Peace and Justice. With Scheveningen aan Zee, where herring has been brought ashore for all of us for years. And every third of October, the people of Leiden, wherever they are in the world, honor this beautiful tradition and celebrate the Relief of Leiden with herring, white bread, and of course, hutspot.

The Hague celebration of the Relief of Leiden at Beachclub Culpepper on October 2

The Hague alumni of the student association LSV Minerva are certainly not to be outdone. They gather every year on October 3rd for the commemoration and merrymaking at Beachclub Culpepper on Scheveningen's Zwarte Pad. It sometimes feels like a kind of outdoor club. This year, due to the closure of the beach season, the group will gather a day earlier, on Sunday, October 2nd at 5:00 PM, at the always lively Culpepper for The Hague's annual celebration of the Relief of Leiden. This year's celebration will undoubtedly be enhanced by another spectacular performance by the renowned De Caballeros, starring Onno Kronenberg, Bas Derhaag, and Hans Martijn Roos. Come see! MAES Notarissen supports this enjoyable gathering with a small gesture. You can register via: mailto:drieoktober@gmail.com .

CSR and our social involvement

At MAES civil-law notaries, we are committed to corporate social responsibility. Our social responsibility focuses on three themes: governance, a sustainable living environment, and social engagement. We hope to make an impact through these initiatives. Because of our social commitment, we sponsor organizations in the fields of Culture, Sports, and Wellbeing & Health. For example, we sponsor the Diligentia and PePijn Theaters, Sailing Team NextGen for the Ocean Race, which will visit Scheveningen again in 2023 (with Leiden resident Carolijn Brouwer, the first woman to win the Volvo Ocean Race in 2018), Hockey Club Rotterdam—the largest hockey club in Europe—and Sparta, the oldest club in professional football. We also support the ALS Foundation, the Kika Foundation, and Support Casper. We hope that through these initiatives, we can make a modest contribution to the well-being of those we sponsor or who are otherwise part of our network.

Because of our ambition to be entrepreneurial, socially responsible, and community-minded, we also offer the "Goed-voor-elkaar-kortingsregeling" (Good for each other discount scheme) (see: https://maesnotarissen.nl/tarieven-kortingen-en-geldverkeer ). This scheme applies to:

  • First-time buyers on the housing market who cannot receive financial assistance from their parents.
  • Pensioners who are entitled to a benefit under the AOW (General Old Age Pensions Act) and have no other income or assets.
  • Private individuals who are entitled to benefits under the WW (Unemployment Act) and the WIA (Work and Income (Capacity for Work) Act).
  • Private customers who work in healthcare, education, emergency services (police, fire brigade, ambulance), defense or a municipality.
  • Farmers, livestock farmers and gardeners.
  • All actors in the real estate sector who add housing to the existing stock.
  • Those who, as shown in https://maesnotarissen.nl/sociale-betrokkenheid, show themselves involved with us, including members and alumni of LSV Minerva and their family members.
